Nana  Araujo

Artist, Writer and Pilot

About the artist

Nana Araujo was born in Curitiba, Brazil, spent a decade in the vibrant embrace of Rio de Janeiro, and now calls Barcelona home. She never let the comfort zone eclipse her dreams. Once a public servant, she chose to walk away from stability to chase the skies—first as a paraglider, then a skydiver, and finally, a pilot.

Her journey led her to the cockpit of one of Brazil’s largest airlines, where she soared across the world as an international pilot, commanding an Airbus 330, one of the grandest passenger aircraft ever built.

Yet, it was in art that she found the ultimate freedom she had been chasing among the clouds. Embracing her calling as a visual artist, she pioneered a dazzling technique—painting with glitter—to bring her vision to life. For Nana, existence itself is a grand carnival, and through her art, she invites the world to dance in its brilliance.

Life in Glitter

In Nana Araujo’s hands, glitter becomes magic. Inspired by the vibrant pulse of Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival, she transforms this shimmering material into the essence of her art—a celebration of life, culture, and emotion. Her unique technique of working exclusively with glitter on wood is both a tribute and an innovation, blending the rich traditions of her Brazilian heritage with a bold, contemporary vision.

Each of her pieces tells a deeply personal story, capturing a fleeting moment, a raw emotion, or a fragment of her journey. Nana doesn’t just create—she feels, dives deep, and lets her art emerge from within. Passion defines her: whether love, joy, or even chaos, she embraces it fully, pouring intensity into every stroke, every sparkle, every radiant hue.

Her Brazilian roots shine through her work, echoing the energy of folklore and Carnival. Glitter—an iconic symbol of celebration—becomes a metaphor for resilience, beauty, and the dazzling chaos of existence. Under shifting light, her pieces come alive, pulsating with movement, color, and emotion, drawing the viewer into a dreamlike world where art is not just seen but felt.

For Nana, art is more than a visual experience—it is an invitation to embrace the highs and lows of life with the same unrelenting passion that fuels her creative spirit.

El Born Collection

“This collection marks the bravest act of my life. I left behind things I deeply loved—Rio de Janeiro, aviation, and my friends—to embark on my wildest adventure: moving to Spain and living solely from my art.

I arrived in Barcelona completely lost, unsure even of where I would live. But I let the city’s restless energy guide me, and that’s how El Born found me. The invitation came through a charming Austrian stranger who stopped me in the street and led me on a walk through the neighborhood. It was love at first sight—a bohemian quarter, its narrow medieval streets designed to be a labyrinth, the perfect place to get lost among bars, museums, people from all corners of the world, and Barcelona’s unmistakable architecture.

Picasso once lived there; he would have been my neighbor if not for the 120 years between us.

Inspired by the beauty and the unforgettable experiences I found in El Born, after so much loss, my rebirth began.”
